Rep. Themis attends Orange Democracy Cup Award Ceremony
State Rep. Themis Klarides attended the 2009 Democracy Cup Award ceremony honoring the town of Orange, Wednesday morning, January 6 in the Town Hall. The award is given annually to small, medium and large towns and cities with the highest voter turn out. With a 58.9% voter turnout rate in 2009, Orange won the honor for the mid-size town category. Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz presented the trophy to First Selectman Jim Zeoli. Also in attendance were Rep. Paul Davis and Sen. Gayle Slossberg.
Klarides Spreads Cheer

DERBY — Nothing says Christmas like tradition, and Rep. Themis Klarides did her part to ring in the holiday season today with an annual trip to Griffin Hospital. Klarides donned a Santa Claus costume and handed out candy canes to people hospitalized for the holidays. Her father, picutred above with family friend Karen Arnold, dressed as Santa for decades and spread holiday cheer just as his daughter did today.
Klarides Opposes Cuts to Towns; Calls for Aid Restoration

HARTFORD — Rep. Themis Klarides today joined Republican lawmakers in rejecting plans to cut town and city aid and instead proposed closing the projected budget deficit by cutting state spending by $466 million. Klarides and her House and Senate Republican colleagues called for immediate action from super-majority Democrats whose budget was unbalanced as soon they passed it in September.
Klarides Meets Woodbridge Students in Hartford

Rep. Themis Klarides spent time with a hundred or so Beecher Road School students at the Capitol for a tour today. Five classes traveled to Hartford from the Woodbridge elementary school, and children talked to Klarides about how the legislature conducts its business. Some students jokingly asked Klarides how they could create a bill that would see them have more lunchtime treats.
